Change in Ed’s opening hours

In the new year there was a bit of a change here at Ed’s… We took the decision to focus on our evening dining and close the restaurant in the day time. We now open from 5pm offering the same critically acclaimed Josper grilled steaks, burgers and fish, with innovative specials and sharing roasts at the weekends (when we are open all day: Saturday noon until later and Sunday noon until 8pm).

Our first 6 months since opening Ed’s has been absolutely amazing and we feel continually priviledged to serve food that we are so proud of to customers who (like us!) really care about what they eat and where their food comes from. We thank all our valued and growing number of customers who continue to humble us with their complimentary comment cards every visit, we love you :) So we hope to see you back very soon for dinner; remember we take the Taste card in the week (Tuesday to Thursday) and are still running the ever packed out (so book in advance!) “All You Can Eat Ribs and Wings Thursday Blow Outs”.

Pies, pies, pies… (and some fish!)

Two of our specials this weekend once again reflect how much we love our fish cooked in the Josper. We’re really proud of our steaks and burgers on the a la carte menu but the weekend is about letting Ivano loose in the kitchen with his freshly bought fish to create some innovative and exciting specials. This week Ivano was back in Sicily so our Executive Chef Paolo jumped in to do this weeks specials.

We have a traditional homemade pie on the blackboards this week which we know is going to go down a real storm, it’s absolutely gorgeous (read more about our new pies below). This week we have:

Starter

Josper Grilled King Prawns, Shaved Fennel, Cherry Tomato and Rocket Salad £6.95

Mains

Grilled Swordfish with mango and Coriander salad £13.50

Homemade Chicken and Ham Pie with leeks and tarragon served with creamy mash £12.50

Another feature of the menu this week is the introduction of our “Pies of the Week”. We will be experimenting with different ingredients and seasonal flavours to bring you the perfect savoury and sweet pies to tuck into over the winter months, all created downstairs in the kitchen by Ivano. We will be serving the pies all week, not just at the weekend, so if you can’t make it in over the next few days then why not pop in for dinner next week to try them out? This week we have the Chicken and Ham Pie (above) and…

Pecan Pie served with cinnamon ice cream £5.50

Proper winter warmers! We’re looking forward to seeing you soon…

Ed’s visits The Rare Breed Meat Company farm!

Wednesday was an early start for us because the Ed’s management team were heading just over the river to Essex to visit the guys behind the success at The Rare Breed Meats Company in Coggeshall. We’ve been getting our beef from The Rare Breed Meat Company ever since we opened Ed’s in May this year and it was one of the big passions of our owners to serve the best quality meat for our steaks. We continue to get excellent feedback about the succulent and flavoursome steaks so we were really excited to go and visit the people who are so dedicated and passionate about their animals.

We were shown around the farm and among the highlights of the visit (apart from all going “aaahhhhhhhhh” at the very vocal pigs) was seeing this ENOURMOUS Limousine bull, he needed a bit of encouragement to get up but when he did we could see the farmer wasn’t joking when about his weight, one whole tonne!

This bull’s calves are what we serve in our restaurant and it made us all really proud to see such a big and healthy steer. The turkeys and geese on the farm were all running around being noisy and full of life when we got back to the farm shop to stock up for our dinners, Ivano out head chef took quite a shine to them ;)

It really made such a difference to see the animals on the farm with room to roam and leading the best quality of life, we know that means the meat that comes to us will be of the highest standard, and that’s something we will never compromise on.

Our visit was educational and enlightening and it was really great to see the people behind the meat that we are so proud to serve :) Have a look at some more of my photos below…

Weekend Specials for 28th/29th October 2011

We headed off to Billinsgate fish market at 4am this morning hoping to pick up some hand dived scallops for this weekends specials only to find the bad weather in Scotland meant there was no fishing going on up there!

Luckily we found some beautiful fresh large prawns and a fantastic piece of swordfish, Scallops will have to wait until next week! After that we headed over to Smithfield meat market and got some great racks of Welsh Lamb which will be great with some fresh, seasonal purple sprouting broccoli and roast new potatoes.

We’ve just got back and Head Chef  Paolo has just knocked up this tasty sample to show you how the prawns will be presented…Hope to see you down this weekend to try them out!

The Rare Breeds Meat Company

Regular customers will know how proud we are of the meat we source for our steaks.

We only buy the highest quality rare breed beef which has been hung for 28 days from an award winning farm down in Essex.

We’ve been having such good reviews about the meat that we decided a trip to meet the guys behind the success at The Rare Breeds Meat Company was in order. I’ll definitely take loads of photos and you can keep up to date on what happened (and whether Mat managed to avoid the cow pats!) on the new Ed’s Blog.

We always love to hear from you and welcome comments on our Facebook page as well as tweets about your Ed’s experiences.

Looking forward to seeing you very soon!

Amanda and the team at Ed’s
